Apple has always played an important role in the music world, in particular with the iPod and the iTunes Music Store. After Beats Electronics was taken over by Apple in 2014, Apple Music was introduced in 2015.
With Apple Music, listeners can not only stream every title in the iTunes catalogue, but also access their entire music collection on their devices. It doesn't matter whether listeners have bought the music on iTunes, copied it from a CD or downloaded it from the internet. Apple Music is a pure music streaming service like Spotify. Users can also manage their own music on iTunes, or purchase music or films..
Streaming income normally ranges between 0.1 and 1 cent per play. The amount is dependent on the price model, the channel used, the country and the number of premium customers (and more) and therefore varies on a monthly basis.
Important: contrary to some rumours, musicians are also paid money per stream in the ad-financed Freemium model. We have summarised the issue of streaming income here.
